Alex Brings Home his First Win of the Season!

Alex Prunty drove to the victory in the 40-lap late model main event for his first feature win of the season.

Steve Schultz and Ricky Heinan set the pace for the 40 lap feature and Schultz grabbed the lead on lap five after a side by side battle. Schultz set the pace for another five laps before retiring to the pits with an ignition issue on lap ten. That allowed Heinan to build a half a lap lead before Brittney Helmers brought out the first caution on lap 16. On the restart Justin Poenitsch lost his hood in an incident with several other cars allowing for another restart. Heinan got the jump on that restart with Alex Prunty moving to second. On lap 20 Heinan and Prunty got together in turn one causing both to spin and bring out another caution. Heinan retired from the event and admitted fault for the incident allowing Prunty to get his spot back as the leader for the restart. Following another caution on lap 22 for a turn one incident involving Kevin Knuese, Prunty and Stephen Scheel battled side by side for the lead. Prunty eventually pulled away and raced off to win the feature event with Scheel coming in second and Wayne Freumund finishing third.

Evening Full of Crashes, Ends Up Ending Race Early

Wayne Freimund was the winner of the late model feature that ended prematurely at the halfway point due to a red flag situation for a severe crash that involved several of the front running cars.

Tyler Schley and Ricky Heinan contested the lead in the opening laps with Wayne Freimund, Ryan Miles, Dan Church, Alex Prunty, and Al Stippich racing for positions behind them. The caution flag waved on lap six when Tim Lange’s car got out of shape on the backstretch after some hard racing with Mike Held. Before Lange could correct the car, Kevin Knuese and Jake Vanoskey were collected in the incident. Schley and Freimund battled for the lead as racing resumed before Freimund was able to take the top spot from the outside on lap 11, just before the caution waved again on lap 13 as Schley looped around in turn four and Ricky Heinan found the wall in the scramble to avoid the incident. That left Freimund and Church lined up in the front row as the green flag reappeared and Freimund used the lower lane to maintain the lead while Miles also used the inside to take over second, dropping Church into a race for third with Stippich. The race came to an abrupt halt on lap 20 when Stippich experienced mechanical problems while racing with Church and the ensuing fluid on the track sent both Stippich and Church into the turn one wall. With nowhere to go and no control due to the oil on the racing surface, Alex Prunty also tagged the first turn wall and finally all three cars were slammed hard by the spinning car of Jerry Mueller. The incident brought out the red flag and due to time limit constraints the event was concluded with all cars not responsible for the fluid on the track being awarded their positions at the last completed lap. Freimund was declared the winner followed by Miles in second place ahead of Church, Jack Stern, and Alex Prunty. Jerry Mueller finished sixth and was taken to a local hospital for observation following the incident from which he was later released.


Late Model heat race wins were captured by Jake Vanoskey and Steven Schulz while Dan Church was the fastest qualifier at 12.535 seconds.

Great Start to the Season!

It was a memorable night last night in Slinger for our team as we ran the #39 in honor of Alex's father who is suffering from sudden heart issues this past week! We battled hard for the lead the final 20 laps of the race in the outside groove, just not enough up top to get the pass done. Very happy to open the season with a Fast Qualifier Award and a 2nd Place feature Finish!

Dan Church survived a hard fought battle with a determined Alex Prunty to win the 40-lap late model feature, sliding the checkered flag after contact on the final lap.
Justin Poenitsch and Church led the field to the green flag and Church used the outside lane to grab the early lead while Ryan Miles followed suite from the outside to take over second, leaving Poenitsch to battle Jerry Mueller and Wayne Freimund for third. The caution flag appeared on lap two for a spin by Ricky Heinan in turn three and on the restart, Church chose the inside lane and maintained his lead for a lap before Miles muscled his way to the inside of Church, setting up a side by side battle for the lead. Behind them Poenitsch and Jerry Mueller also raced alongside each other for third and when Poenitsch grabbed the spot, Mueller ran out of room off turn two, brushed the wall and came down the track, collecting Al Stippich and Eric Connell in the process as the caution flag waved. Church and Miles resumed their battle for the lead as racing resumed until Miles slipped and faded a bit on the outside in turn four, allowing Freimund to move into second while Alex Prunty raced forward to challenge Poenitsch in fourth. Poenitsch’s car began to get loose and both Prunty and Mike Held drove by as Freimund held off Miles for second while Church began to extend his lead. Miles began to drift back on the outside and both Prunty and Held raced around him and into third and fourth respectively. Prunty was the driver on the move as he dispatched Freimund a few laps later for second and began to close on Church for the lead when the caution waved again on lap 21 when Poenitsch hit the turn four wall. Church held off Prunty’s challenges as racing resumed through caution periods on lap 27 for an incident between Miles and Held and on lap 31 when Held hit the turn four wall hard. In the final laps, Prunty did everything he could to unseat Church from the lead while Freimund sat close by in third. On the final lap, Prunty muscled his way to the inside of Church off turn two and when Church held the inside lane, the contact between the two turned Prunty’s car into Freimund’s as the top three fought for control on their way to the checkered flag. Church held onto his sliding car to cross the line first for the win over Prunty while Mike Meyerhofer charged into third at the stripe, leaving Freimund to finish fourth ahead of Ryan Zielski in fifth.

Al Stippich and Ryan Zielski were the winners of the late model heat races while fast time was set by Alex Prunty at 12.486 seconds.
